PHS Cross Country Team Receives Appleton Team Award
The Optimist Club of Jasper presented the Jerry W. Appleton Team Award to the Pickens High School Cross Country team for their participation in the 2017 Flapjack Run held in June. They had the most runners of any team on that race day.
Parish Lowrie, Flapjack Run Chair, congratulated the team members following a team practice. Sue Appleton proudly presented the award in memory of her late husband who had been an Optimist and was known for being a great team member throughout his life.

The Optimist Club of Jasper presented their annual donations to 9 local organizations at their two August meetings held at The Lunch Box. Each year the club holds 3 fundraisers including annual pecan sale in November, their golf tournament in May and their Flapjack Run in June. Through these fundraisers they are able to fund numerous service projects as well as make donations to organizations that help support their mission of "bringing out the best in kids". This year these 9 organizations along with the Pickens County Library summer reading program received $7,750.00 in total.

L. to R: Michele Brackin of Boys and Girls Club, Steve Lowe of The Joy House, Valerie Peel of Habitat for Humanity, Margy Lohman of Prevent Child Abuse Pickens, Ralph Barker of North Georgia Pregnancy Center presented by Susan White, Club President.
