8/10/2015 ~ by Sue Appleton - The Optimist Club of Jasper made their first round of annual donations to Pickens County organizations at their regular meeting on August 6th at Last Catch Seafood restaurant.

Each of the organizations that received donations from the local Optimist Club helps our club meet the mission of Optimist International of “bringing out the best in kids”. At this meeting, six organizations received donations:

- Appalachian Children’s Emergency Shelter (ACES)
- The Good Shepherd Ranch
- The Joy House
- Pickens FERST Foundation for Childhood Literacy
- Prevent Child Abuse Pickens (PCAP)
- S.A.F.E. Program of Pickens County 4-H

At the club's next meeting on August 20, 2015, seven more organizations/programs will be receiving donations.

Each year the Optimist Club of Jasper holds 3 fundraisers including Pecan sales in November, the 5K Flapjack Run in April and the annual Scholarship Golf Tournament in May. Through the hard work of the club members and the support of the community, we are able to fund many child-oriented organizations in our community plus provide scholarships and fund awards for our annual Oratorical and Essay Contests as well.

If you are interested in getting involved and would like to support the youth of our community, then join us at our next meeting which will be held Thursday, August 20th at Last Catch Seafood Restaurant at 7:00 AM. We are a breakfast club and provide great coffee and food to start your day.
