Boys and Girls Clubs surprised at the Optimist Breakfast!

OPTIMISTS SUPPORT THEIR COMMUNITY
By Sue Appleton/Secretary

The Optimist Club of Jasper has the mission of "bringing out the best in kids" and one of the ways that they accomplish their mission is to support local organizations that provide services to the youth of our community.  On Thursday, December 17, 2015 the club provided two donations to the Boys and Girls Club of Pickens County.

Each year the Optimist Club of Jasper in collaboration with the Jasper Rotary Club provides funding for four Youth of the Month plaques.  Dave Slade, the club president, presented a check to Michele Brackin, Executive Director, and her daughter, Mikayla, to help cover the cost for four plaques for 2016.

As a surprise Jim Kirk of the Optimist Club of Jasper Foundation (a 501(c)3 organization)presented to Michele a check in the amount of $1,000 towards the Capital Campaign for the new Boys and Girls Club being built in Roper Park.  Recently an anonymous donor has agreed to match all gifts given to the Boys and Girls Club by the end of December up to $100.000.   With this match, the gift provided by the Optimist Club of Jasper will be doubled.   The recent sale of pecans helped provide money for this donation!  Thank you to everyone who bought our pecans this year!

Like to help the youth in our community?  Then get involved with the Optimist Club of Jasper.  Check us out at our website at www.jasperoptimist.blogspot.com and Like us on Facebook by searching for Optimist Club of Jasper GA.   We meet the first and 3rd Thursdays at the Woodbridge Inn at 7:00 AM for a great breakfast.  Come join us on Thursday, January 7th to learn more!  Guests and new members welcome!
