OPTIMISTS PROVIDE COMFORT FOR KIDS
By Sue Appleton/Secretary
Imagine you are a young child walking into Piedmont Mountainside Hospital ER with your parent and then the parent is whisked back to see the doctor and you are in the waiting area. Or imagine you are a young child whose parent is in the operating room of the hospital and you are waiting in the surgical waiting area. Scary, isn't it?
In the past, hospital employees would oftentimes buy stuffed animals in their gift shop to comfort these children but now the Optimist Club of Jasper has stepped in to provide this comfort for the kids. Susan White, Vice President of the club, presented the first 25 stuffed animals to Janet Ponder of Piedmont Mountainside Hospital for them to give the kids as needed. As more are needed, the Optimist Club of Jasper will provide additional stuffed animals.
The Optimist Club of Jasper held their annual fundraiser selling fresh pecans during the month of November. The pecans went fast this year and are now sold out. Funds from this sale goes to help children in our community and to help the club reach their mission to "bring out the best in kids".
So when you bought pecans you were helping our young people including the providing of these stuffed animals at our local hospital. Thank you.
